We started our fairy-tale unit and we have had SO much fun reading all kinds of fairy-tales. We read many versions of the Three Little Pigs and then we wrote our own re-tell of the story. By the end of the unit we are going to write our very own fair-tale. In science we are learning all about our 5 senses! We have done lots of experiments like guessing the smell, what does it taste like and eye safety posters. In math we are working skip counting by 2's, 5's and 10's as well as our mental math strategies for addition and subtraction. We love using our friends of ten math strategy! In gym we completed our dance unit and are now doing a gymnastics unit. We are excited at the end of the month to show you all we have been learning at our cerebration of learning! Here are the upcoming events for April:

I am looking for 1 or 2 volunteers to help us make bread (at 10:40am for about an hour). If you are able to help let me know! Celebration of Learning This is a drop in event where your child will lead you around a variety of centers to show you what we have been working on! Progress reports are coming out at the end of the month and we have been doing a lot of "show what you know". This month we finished up our winter seasons unit, learned about Antarctica, did some writing about Antarctica, learned all about penguins for our adaptations in science unit and made some new years resolutions. We had our hibernation day where we made our own dens and started our addition and subtraction unit in math!!!! Next month we are heading to the Arctic to learn about arctic animals and their adaptions for cold climates as well as how to find information in books for our polar bear research project! Stay tuned for a Fabulous February coming up! Hello, hello, hello!
Here is the lowdown of what is going on over the next 2 months. What we are doing: In science we are learning about what animals do in the winter as well as animal adaptations! We are looking at penguins and their adaptations and in February we are going to research polar bears! In language arts, we have started an awesome writing project called "Going to Antarctica" and are working on using capitals and periods in all our writing! In math we are looking at breaking numbers apart into two groups which is leading us into addition and subtraction!! We are also working on our numbers to 100 in preparation for 100 day!! Freshgrade - Progress Reports -As you may know we are now doing all our reporting through Freshgrade! (You may have noticed in the last few weeks I have been posting on there like CRAZY!) On February 2nd an official progress report will be posted to your child's Freshgrade for your viewing (they will not be a paper copy - just electronic). All comments are in your child's portfolio under the specific outcome, not in the posted report card (just scroll through their "feed" and you should see all my comments). Sorry in advance if I am blowing your phone up like crazy with all my posting! Let me know if you have any questions about this! It is new this year for us and I hope it gives you more feedback and examples so you feel you know exactly how your child is doing! January 25th PJ/Hibernation Day! -We are learning about what animals do in the winter to survive, so on January 25th we are having a hibernation day where you can wear your PJ's and bring a stuffy! Let me know if you have any questions about the above or if you would like to help out for the winter carnival! December has been a crazy, busy, magical, AMAZING month! We did so many cool things. We read all sorts of gingerbread books and made our own gingerbread man which RAN AWAY! Don't worry we caught him. We made gingerbread houses for our building unit in science and made Elf Applications for Santa. We also had a magical adventure to the North Pole to see if we could be elves for Santa and we spent the day playing in the snow, making reindeer food, practicing our Christmas decorating skills and building toys. Check out the picture from our December adventures! We celebrated the 50th day of school in style in our classroom! We blew bubbles, hula-hooped, twisted and hand-jived the day away! We also made some amazing root beer floats and wrote about them! Check out some of our pictures! |
