Next month we are heading to the Arctic to learn about arctic animals and their adaptions for cold climates as well as how to find information in books for our polar bear research project!
Stay tuned for a Fabulous February coming up!
We have been hard at work this month! Progress reports are coming out at the end of the month and we have been doing a lot of "show what you know". This month we finished up our winter seasons unit, learned about Antarctica, did some writing about Antarctica, learned all about penguins for our adaptations in science unit and made some new years resolutions. We had our hibernation day where we made our own dens and started our addition and subtraction unit in math!!!! Hello, hello, hello!
Here is the lowdown of what is going on over the next 2 months. What we are doing: In science we are learning about what animals do in the winter as well as animal adaptations! We are looking at penguins and their adaptations and in February we are going to research polar bears! In language arts, we have started an awesome writing project called "Going to Antarctica" and are working on using capitals and periods in all our writing! In math we are looking at breaking numbers apart into two groups which is leading us into addition and subtraction!! We are also working on our numbers to 100 in preparation for 100 day!! Freshgrade - Progress Reports -As you may know we are now doing all our reporting through Freshgrade! (You may have noticed in the last few weeks I have been posting on there like CRAZY!) On February 2nd an official progress report will be posted to your child's Freshgrade for your viewing (they will not be a paper copy - just electronic). All comments are in your child's portfolio under the specific outcome, not in the posted report card (just scroll through their "feed" and you should see all my comments). Sorry in advance if I am blowing your phone up like crazy with all my posting! Let me know if you have any questions about this! It is new this year for us and I hope it gives you more feedback and examples so you feel you know exactly how your child is doing! January 25th PJ/Hibernation Day! -We are learning about what animals do in the winter to survive, so on January 25th we are having a hibernation day where you can wear your PJ's and bring a stuffy! February 7th - School Wide Winter Carnival -We will be outside all afternoon, getting exercise and experiencing our awesome Winter Carnival! (I am looking for 1-2 volunteers for this event. It is in the after 12:50-2:15pm and it is outside. Let me know if you can help out!) February 14th - Valentines Day -We will be sharing Valentines with our friends, so if you would like to pass them out please bring them that morning! February 19 - 23rd - No School -Family Day, Professional Days and Teacher's Convention - have a great week off! February 28th - 100 Day of School! -We will be making a 100 day trail mix! Bring 100 of something to add to our class trail mix (ex: cheerios, marshmallows, pretzels, chocolate chips, cereal - any dry ingredient will do!) Have fun counting with your kids all the way to 100! Let me know if you have any questions about the above or if you would like to help out for the winter carnival! |
