Our classroom has transformed into a Winter Wonderland!!!! We are beginning to learn about the Winter Season as well as getting ready for Christmas! We started off our winter wonderland by having a sight word snowball fight! -When: Wednesday, December 9th at 1:30
-Where: IREC gymnasium The grade one classes would like to invite our grade one families and friends to come celebrate with us at our Silver Bell Tea. It will be an afternoon filled with fabulous student performances in the play, “The Lost Mitten,” class songs, poems and finally Christmas Carols with our friends and families. Doors will open at 1:10. Please remain in the main entryway until this time before proceeding to the gymnasium. There is no need to sign in at the office or at the gym doors. Siblings are welcome to attend, but we request that they remain with their parents at all times due to safety concerns. If you are leaving with your child before the end of the school day, please check in with your teacher. We are requesting some help from our families to make this event a success. Our class needs to supply: -50 Napkins -2 Plastic Christmas (or red) table cloths -Treats (6 sets of treats – cookies, fruit, donuts etc.) -Parent volunteer to help set up the snacks at 12:00pm -1 Parent Volunteer to help serve treats after the performance -1 Parent Volunteer to help us clean up after the performance/snacks If you can volunteer or donate any of the above, please let me know as soon as possible! We understand that for this special event students may want to dress up, and please do, but note that all grade one students will be going outside for recess on the day of the Silver Bell Tea so please make sure your child is dressed for the weather. We look forward to spreading Christmas Cheer! Sincerely, Rickee Holgerson The 50th day of school was SO much fun!!! We hula hooped, twisted, blew bubbles, hand-jived, made root beer floats and had a great time! We also did SO much counting to 50 and had our very own grade one sock hop in the gym! Check out some of our pictures from this awesome day!!! It’s a giving time of year and students and staff at Iron Ridge Elementary Campus are ready and willing to participate in supporting the Blackfalds Christmas Bureau and Blackfalds Food Bank.
Each class from ECS to Grade 4 will accept donations (loonies and toonies) from their students. These donations will be made instead of classroom gift exchanges on the last day of school before Christmas. To support the Blackfalds Christmas Bureau, IREC would like your contributions by Monday, December 7th. We do see that donations are used to make Christmas better for children, families, and seniors in the Blackfalds community. Bonus: For every $1.00 donated by a student they will receive a ticket and be entered into a raffle for prime front- row seating for the Christmas concerts. An ECS Family on December 8th, and a Grade One Family on December 9th. On December 10th a Grade Three Family at the 6 p.m. concert and a Grade Four Family at the 7:30p.m. concert; and a Grade Two Family on Dec. 11th (maximum of 6 seats per family). As well, IREC will be collecting non-perishable food items for the Blackfalds Food Bank. Collection bins will be available to drop off your donated items at the main doors at IREC for each Christmas concert. This is a great activity for students as they help to make Christmas more enjoyable for someone less fortunate while they in turn learn how to be good citizens of the world. When we synergize and work together we can do great things. MERRY CHRISTMAS! We have some exciting events coming up!
This Thursday is Pirates and Princess Day. Your child can feel free to dress up as a Pirate or a Princess. This is a school wide event, so it should be a pretty fun day! On Monday November 23rd, grade ones are celebrating Fiftieth Day! It is our 50th day of school so we will all be dressing up like we are from the fifties! Boys - slick back your hair, cuff your jeans and t-shirts. Girls, wear your best sock hop clothes, dresses, poodle skirts, ponytails and cardigans! It is going to be a fun filled day FULL of 50's activities! (Parents do not feel pressured to get an outfit, whatever you have at home will work!) Book Orders will be coming home this week. They are due on Thursday November 19th. No School on Friday November 20th. Let me know if you have any questions! We learned a new sight word game this morning - an egg sight word flip! We love practicing our sight words through fun games!
